Rain, Rain, Go Away: How to Make the Most of a Rainy Day on Vacation

Ugh! It's raining on our vacation! What are we supposed to do now?

Don't worry, just because the PNW weather's not cooperating doesn't mean your vacation has to be a total wash (pun intended). Here are some ideas for how to make the most of a rainy day on vacation, even if there's no TV to keep you entertained.

  1. Break out the board games and puzzles. Remember those fun (but now dusty) board games and puzzles? Well, now's the time to break them out and have a family game night. Whether it's Yahtzee, Monopoly, Scrabble, or something more modern like Cards Against Humanity, playing games together is a great way to pass the time and have some fun.

  2. Go for a walk (or run, hike, or bike ride). Just because it's raining doesn't mean you can't enjoy the great outdoors. Put on your raincoat and boots and go for a walk, a hike, run, or bike ride. You might be surprised at how peaceful and beautiful the world can look when it's raining. Plus, the exercise will do you good.

  3. Visit a local museum or attraction. Most cities and towns have museums and other attractions that are perfect for a rainy day. Whether it's an art museum, a science center, or a historic site, there's bound to be something interesting to explore. Just remember to bring an umbrella and a sense of adventure.

  4. Cook (or bake) something delicious. Why not use the rainy day as an excuse to try out a new recipe? Whether it's a hearty stew, a batch of cookies, or something else entirely, spending some time in the kitchen can be a fun and rewarding way to pass the time. Just make sure to save some for the rest of the family (or not, we won't judge).

  5. Catch up on your reading (or writing). If you're a bookworm, a rainy day on vacation is the perfect opportunity to curl up with a good book (or three). And if you're more of a writer, why not use the quiet, peaceful atmosphere to jot down some thoughts or even start that novel you've been meaning to write?

So don't let a little rain dampen your vacation.

With a little creativity and a positive attitude, you can make the most of any situation. Happy vacationing!"
